Slinky Dresses and Silky Leather at AllSaints

Covetable Brit brand AllSaints finally threw open its doors in Soho last week, unveiling a sprawling, 13,600-square-foot flagship. This is the label’s first outpost in New York, and it went for a studiously hip, vintage vibe, decking the space in distressed leather chairs, weathered wood, exposed brick, and oxidized steel. Singer sewing machines are stacked impressively along the front walls and a loom from the twenties graces the ground floor.

The merchandise is of considerably higher quality than its British neighbor, Topshop, divvied into floors for men and women. The street-level floor is awash in full-skirted dresses, silky leather jackets, strappy sandals (plus a serious selection of lace-up boots), skinny jeans, and slinky asymmetrical knits. The men’s floor below is slightly less groundbreaking, but no less wearable, offering a slew of rumpled button-downs, leather jackets, faded blazers, and graphic tees. Less than a week since its opening, the shop was packed with evening shoppers when we stopped by (meanwhile, sales clerks scampered up and down the stairs for sizes and fretted about selling out of shoes).
