Karl Lagerfeld Put Himself on the Cover of Today’s Libération

If actual paper newspapers are old-fashioned, today’s Libération in France has got to be the most retro in ages. Karl Lagerfeld illustrated today’s entire issue as part of his one-day guest editorship. (As a person who reacts to the idea of reading news electronically by exclaiming, “Quelle horreur,” he knows better than to stick around too long in this business.) His illustrations include a self-portrait for the cover of today’s edition, which is 14 by 22 inches — twice as large as it usually is. The picture Karl created to go with a story on the scandalized French soccer team comes with the sassy phrase, “In the long run, soccer empties the head.” Now there’s an excuse to avoid watching sports!
