Rodarte Might Enjoy a Moment With Michelle Obama

Congrats to Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, who just won this year’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for fashion. Last year, Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein beat Rodarte for the award. This year, Rodarte beat Proenza Schouler, Behnaz Sarafpour, and dozens of other nominees for the prize. Michelle Obama, who has worn Rodarte, will serve as honorary patron for the award ceremony this year, taking place on October 14 in New York. She was honorary patron last year, too, but didn’t attend, instead sending the White House’s then-Social Secretary, Desirée Rogers, to represent her. It’s unclear whether she’ll attend this year, but last year she made up her absence to the nominees by inviting them to the White House for more honoring.
