Kristen McMenamy: ‘I Thought All That Gray Hair Would Make a Beautiful Picture’

Kristen McMenamy is having another of the many moments she’s enjoyed throughout her career as a model. Her steady stream of editorial and campaign bookings continues with her return toVogue for the August issue; she also walked the fall Calvin Klein show in New York and opened and closed the fall Viktor & Rolf show in Paris. And her style signatures, like red lips, shaved eyebrows, and cropped hair, are current again. But in the new Vogue pictures, shot by David Sims, what stands out about McMenamy, whose hair was so famously short those years ago, is her striking long, gray mane. She talked to Vogue Daily about it:

“You’ve got to keep moving forward,” she says, adding firmly, “You can get older and still be rock-’n’-roll.” And then, ever the photographer’s muse: “I thought all that gray hair would make a beautiful picture.”

Now 45, McMenamy still has a ridiculously great body, which she credits to a macrobiotic diet, regular runs in London with her dog, and yoga classes she does three times a week.

“I occasionally want to cry during class,” she says of the intensive Juvamukti sessions, “but yoga is my fountain of youth.”

Hahaha. Oh, models. Always blaming their hot bodies on the magic yoga. The parents’ genes never get any credit.
