Rumor: Olivier Theyskens Was Offered a Job at Oscar de la Renta

Today “Page Six” reported that Oscar de la Renta has fallen very ill after having hip replacement surgery before Fashion Week, and will have to step down from the helm of his label very soon. Though his reps deny it, the industry is abuzz that there is some veracity to the reports of his ailing health. Hint magazine hears that the hunt for the 78-year-old designer’s successor has been on for some time, and that Olivier Theyskens turned down the gig as long ago as last year. Hint, which has been all about reporting rumors related to Theyskens and Karl Lagerfeld leaving Chanel, reports that the ex-Nina Ricci designer turned down the Oscar gig because he’s holding out for Lanvin. He also reportedly turned down gigs at Valentino and Dior. But these are all just rumors, and Oscar de la Renta’s people have said only that he has no plans to abandon his position as creative chief of his label, and that any new hires at the company are not being groomed to replace him in any way.
