Prada’s sales in China have spiked about 51 percent this year, and to keep the country’s interest piqued, Miuccia Prada has decided to stage a runway show in Beijing on January 22. There’s been some speculation that Prada wants to be listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and if that’s true, it makes sense that the company would want to drum up some hype. Looks from Prada’s spring collection will be featured, along with items created just for the event. Of course, Prada isn’t the first luxury brand to showcase their goods in China: Phillip Lim recently had models strut down the Forbidden City Wall in cheongsam-inspired dresses, and Chanel, Fendi, and Christian Dior have all staged elaborate shows there. Just this week Diane Von Furstenberg said she would “like to sell every Chinese a T-shirt,” while Anna Wintour announced her desire to bring the Vogue Fashion Fund to China. And so the mass wooing continues.
