WWD documented the furrier’s latest otherworldly party, held appropriately in Aspen to herald the opening of his new store. A Champagne and caviar party accompanied a runway show at the St. Regis hotel, where art collector John Phelan won a Russian sable coat for his wife in an auction with a $120,000 bid ($600,000 was raised for the Aspen Art Museum). Meanwhile, “Basso helped keep the cash register ringing in his 2,000-square-foot boutique — triple the size of his previous one. Apparently, a few Aspenites warmed up from the slopes in his $95,000 Russian sable vests with crocodile trim and $200,000 sable coats.” [WWD]
