The concept of deconstructed suiting may not be novel in itself, but newly launched Argentine label Li Torres offers a fresh take. Co-designers Fabian Li and Javier Torres studied fashion at the Universidad Argentina de la Empressa, then landed various design jobs in Argentina; they met while working at print-happy womenswear label Juana de Arco. The pair decided to launch their own label for spring 2010, veering in a decidedly different direction than Arco’s wild mix-and-match prints. For their debut collection, Disconnection, the pair offers their spin on classic tailoring, constructing handmade pieces in a neutral palette of gray, black, and white. Suit jackets feature angular cuts and contrasting fabrics, coats are draped and wrapped, and T-shirts tout diagonal zippers and asymmetrical hemlines. The spring collection is stocked exclusively at Convent, arriving in-store this month.
