Lindsey Wixson Is the Spring 2011 Face of Alexander McQueen [Updated]

The last clothes that Alexander McQueen would touch before taking his own life almost a year ago constituted his label’s fall 2010 collection. The show went on without him, a somber, musicless affair held in Paris for small crowds of editors and weeping assistants. As the house mourned his death and made the decision to keep the label going with Sarah Burton at the helm, no fall 2010 advertising imagery was produced (though beautiful editorials in magazines were). The label’s campaign makes a darkly bold return this season, under Burton’s direction, with 16-year-old Donatella Versace favorite Lindsey Wixson starring. Wixson’s first major ad campaign, for Miu Miu, was a set of controversial images of her looking very young and very thin. The McQueen campaign is a big “get” for the model, who definitely seems to be growing up and coming into her own after being fashion famous for a whole year. Modeling years are like dog years, you know.

Update: A rep from Alexander McQueen tells us that this imagery isn’t a print campaign, but for use on the label’s website and in stores. No official print campaign for spring 2011 is planned
