Glenda Bailey: Long Skirts Can Help End the Recession

At the Max Azria show Sunday, Harper’s Bazaar editor Glenda Bailey said that among the trends she’s noticed in these first few days of fall-winter shows, like a smattering of wider pant legs and rounded shapes for a “cocoon” feeling, most prominent is the lower hemlines. “I think it’s so interesting how there are so many long lengths, even midi lengths. Even for those designers who like short, it was heading toward the knees,” she told us. “I think that’s a sign that the designers are still feeling the recession is around us, and presumably this is a hope that more people will go buying as they want to change the length of their outfits and update their wardrobes.”
