Thom Browne is known for his spectacular menswear shows, but last night he showed his debut womenswear collection in the New York Public Library, where security guards almost didn’t let guests in because the library was closed. “They’re not here to go to the library!” frustrated PR people told them. Really, books?! They were there for the fashion show, and what a show it truly was. Browne’s models walked in wearing twisted versions of nun’s habits, only to be disrobed by male model “priests” before walking around the room and taking their places, heads bowed, at long tables. The clothes, Browne explained, were the sort of thing he’d want to wear if he were a woman. Watch the video to see the show and hear more from the designer.
