Councilwoman Margaret Chin has proposed a bill that would fine anyone seen purchasing counterfeit designer merchandise $1,000. “We don’t want to be known as the place to come to get counterfeit goods,” she says. No, we don’t! Because not only are counterfeit bags and sunglasses and whatnot sartorially offensive, but the money also goes to things like terrorism and bad child-labor practices. But even if passed, Chin’s bill — which already has five co-sponsors — might not actually stop chicks who really want a cheap logo bag.
