The Cannes Film Festival is a great place for fashion people and celebrities to be outrageous on the red carpet. Sheer trains were made for Cannes, as were sheer dresses that daring foreign women with perfect butts wear over nothing but a couple of strings masquerading as panties with the nonchalance of an average American woman in a khaki poplin trench coat. American stars typically sew linings into their lace looks, but as so many red carpet walkers proved, linings are about as necessary at this film festival as a water fountain in a shower.
