Now that Hudson Yards is becoming a shopping center instead of the Jets stadium, the developers are trying to lure a department store to anchor the 720,000-plus-square-foot space, which will be split between five or six levels. They’ve released a rendering of the building, which will also feature office space, parks, apartments, and a “cultural center” — basically, it’s the Time Warner Center, only on the West Side Highway instead of Midtown, and in a more space-age-y building. Both Nordstrom and Bloomingdales have been pitched to set up shop there, although Nordstrom is believed to be a more likely candidate, given their recent interest in securing a Manhattan location. But regardless of who takes the space, will people really trek to the hinterlands of Penn Station to go shopping?
