What to Expect From the Rag & Bone Sample Sale

The rag & bone sample sale officially starts today, but friends, family, and a few lucky passers-by got a sneak peek at the selection in Chelsea Market yesterday. Equal parts men’s and womenswear, the sale has the overwhelming “Did I see everything?” feel, but the large space and well-managed racks make it doable. While there are only a few skirts and a smattering of tops in small sizes, there is a great selection of pants ($125) and jeans ($95), helpfully organized by size, in a variety of styles. Their thick, comfortable knits ($40) and legendary jackets and blazers ($250) are stocked in a full range of sizes, and fedoras, belts, and bags (accessories $65, bags $125) are piled on tables. Best of all, many of the items are fresh from this season: Hadleigh dresses, Harley dresses ($175 each), and Devon Crop sweaters ($125) are plentiful and deeply discounted. As to be expected, the downside of the sale is the fitting room — a small curtained-off area with a limited number of mirrors (albeit big ones) and hanging space. Be prepared for some butt-brushing as you eye the girl next to you trying on the fantastic pair of cream silk shorts that you didn’t see on the rack.
