Parisian fashion collective Surface to Air opened its first New York store in Soho last week. Minimally decked with white walls, wood floors, black leather benches, and a handful of helpful French men, the 2,300-square-foot space offers a soothing respite from the frenzy of Broadway just a block away. Womenswear lines one side of the store with splurge-worthy coats, sheer and cut-out tops, patched skirts, and knits, while the menswear on the other side focuses on denim, jackets, and button-down shirts. Apart from the luxurious outerwear (check out Kid Cudi’s leather collaboration), the shoes are the centerpiece, from cherry-red wedge booties to Leigh Lezark’s sculptural platform heels.
