Jean-Michel Cazabat Brings His Statement-Making Heels to Bleecker

Photo: Melissa Hom

Footwear designer Jean-Michel Cazabat is launching his West Village store tonight on a soon-to-be Frenchified strip of Bleecker Street. (Womenswear labels Sandro and Maje are moving in a block away — flanking the Nars store — later this month.) Cazabat has been designing his line for over a decade, specializing in towering suede, leather, and exotic-skin heels in sculptural silhouettes and punchy colors. Though the shoes are stocked at Barneys and Saks Fifth Avenue, this marks Cazabat’s first stand-alone store in New York.

The décor is minimalist and modern, with shoes displayed in backlit cubes and cherry-red armchairs for trying on kicks. The fall/winter 2011 collection has several themes, from woven wool boots to Victorian ruffle-embellished pumps and seventies-inspired high-heeled loafers. Click ahead for a look at the selection.
