A scene from Rihanna’s “S&M” video that was allegedly copied from LaChapelle’s photographs.
Rihanna and her record label, Def Jam, have paid photographer David LaChapelle “an undisclosed sum” to settle the lawsuit he brought against them early this past summer for allegedly copying several of his images in Rihanna’s “S&M” video. LaChapelle initially asked for $1 million in damages, explaining at the time that “musicians commonly pay to sample music or use someone’s beats and there should be no difference when sampling an artist’s visuals.” [Page Six/NYP]
