The Humane Society has taken legal action against retailers in the past for falsely labeling fur bits on clothes, yet the problem continues, they say in a new petition filed with the FTC. Barneys, Neiman Marcus, Gilt, Revolve Clothing, Yoox, and other online retailers are accused of labeling items that contain some real fur as faux. “I don’t think they’re trying to maliciously mislead consumers, but it’s a pervasive problem,” says Humane Society attorney Ralph Henry. Plus, fur on clothes coming from China might not be labeled at all, which can be confusing for retailers.
