See What Kate Hudson, Victoria Beckham, Alexa Chung, and More Wore to the British Fashion Awards

Last night in London, the British Fashion Awards honored the U.K.’s best designers and dressers for their work making or wearing clothes over the past year. And the best of the best, from Stella McCartney to Daphne Guinness, attended the event wearing the sorts of fabulous apparel and shoes you don’t get to see at the safe events honoring film and television, where everyone (with few exceptions, like Blake Lively) is so scared of ending up on worst-dressed lists that they don’t even bother trying to be fashionable. But Britain is a land that celebrates sartorial risk, and that sentiment was wonderfully apparent on the award show’s red carpet, where if something made you wince (red tights, excess fringe), it also made you smile inside, just knowing it was there. Ahead, see what Kate Hudson, Sarah Burton, Guinness, McCartney, and many more wore to the award show yesterday.

A slide in this post has been updated to note Louise Gray has not collaborated with Kanye West after all.

Alexa Chung Alexa beat Kate Middleton to win the award for most stylish British person, which the British public votes on. You can't say her preference for flats and dresses that aren't designed to show off her boobs and butt aren't refreshing — and evidently quite so, since she's won this award two years in a row. Perhaps she's a reminder that there are better ways to distinguish one's style than pasting tires to one's head or not wearing bottoms when the cameras are around. Photo: Tim Whitby/2011 Getty Images
