According to the Times, Men Don’t Shop, They ‘Stockpile’

An interview roundup of stylish men in today’s Times produces this unsurprising conclusion: When a man likes an article of clothing, he buys multiples and re-wears them all the time. Explains Billy Reid, “I’ve been a stockpiler for years. Several items like vintage 517 Levi’s, I will buy three to four at a time. I have three pairs of our Roper boots in various stages of wear.” But is that really such a male tendency? You can’t open a single women’s magazine without seeing advice to “Buy Multiples!” and “Stick With What Works!” in the style pages. Really, women probably stockpile just as much as men, if not more. Hoarding: It knows no gender boundaries.
