Inside Sperry Top-Sider’s Nautical-Inspired Store
For those with access to a boat — or those who just want to look like they do — preppy footwear brand Sperry Top-Sider is launching its first stand-alone store in the city today, the fourteenth in the U.S. The 1,700-square-foot space is loosely boathouse-inspired, with whitewashed wood and teak detailing, and American-flag artwork. Rather than sending sales clerks scampering back and forth to fetch sizes (though they will, if you prefer), the store allows shoppers to grab pairs to try on themselves in the open stockroom in back. Though Sperry is known for its original white-soled boat shoes, the range here extends far beyond the nautical staple, and includes oxfords, boots, ballet flats, and wedges. Tapping into the brand’s recent resurgence off the boat, you’ll also find boots and boat shoes from the Band of Outsider collaboration and Navy-style wool peacoats from Fidelity.
