Best Bet: Muji Skin Care

Japanese chain Muji is best known for its cleanly designed, functional housewares and accessories. The same no-nonsense philosophy extends to the brand’s moisturizing skin-care products, which just arrived in the U.S. last week. The collection includes two ranges — one organic and one for sensitive skin — and many of the ingredients will be familiar to Aesop devotees. The organic toner and moisturizing cream pack hydrating ingredients like sage leaf extract, peppermint leaf extract, jojoba leaf extract, and aloe vera, while the unscented sensitive skin products incorporate grapefruit seed extract and natural oils. Though the collection is moisturizing, it’s gentle on the skin; the sensitive skin cleansers, toners, and lotions are free of ethanol alcohol, parabens, mineral oils, and artificial coloring and fragrances.

Muji skincare line, $11.50 to $33.50 at Muji or online.
