Word association with MADE Fashion Week designers continues, and this time we’re chatting with Phoebe and Annette Stephens, the designers behind jewelry line Anndra Neen. For their fall 2012 collection, titled “This Mistress Is Out,” the designers “created this world where the lady of the house leaves, closes her closet door, and all the little men come and play and guard her jewelry,” Phoebe said. The collection explores the imperfect geometry of nature, ranging from minimalist, contoured rings to a large collar-cum-breastplate, punctuated with a sepia-toned stone.  Many of the hand-forged silver and gold collars, bangles, cuffs, and clutches had strong textural elements, while other pieces used minimal lines to create negative space. So what comes to mind for Phoebe when she hears the word prints? Read on to find out (hint: it has nothing to do with patterns, well, maybe paisley).

Armor: Phoebe: “Our pieces! We’re very inspired by that — French armor, medieval armor.”

Androgynous: Annette: “Models.”

Urban-Sexy: Annette: “Look. Definitely what you want to look like in New York.”

Effortless: Phoebe: “Style. You want your style to be effortless.”

Prints: Phoebe: “Music! The guy, the singer.”

Hero: Phoebe: “Our family.” Annette: “Coco Chanel.”
