
In an editorial for French Elle, Karl Lagerfeld goes grocery shopping. Of all of the things you could force a kaiser to do for a glossy, it’s quite successfully disconcerting to frame him as a mere commoner. As you know, he would never be spotted surrounded by stacks and stacks of calories in real life, explaining in the accompanying interview: “It’s the first time I’ve stepped into a supermarket. It’s crazy — fascinating what one can buy. There’s enough here to easily gain twenty kilos.”
