Popular microblogging site Pinterest, which allows users to create their own virtual collages with images gathered from around the Internet, encountered a troubling problem: Some users were pinning photos of bony models to make “thinspiration” boards. A few critics accused Pinterest of providing a convenient platform for individuals to promote the spread of eating disorders; others just found it creepy. In any case, Pinterest has decided to do something to prevent it. On Friday evening, the company sent an email to its users stating that its new acceptable use guidelines will ban any content that “creates a risk of harm, loss, physical or mental injury, emotional distress, death, disability, disfigurement, or physical or mental illness to yourself, to any other person, or to any animal.” The change will go into effect on April 6.
