“I’m not afraid of the [fashion] system,” the designer told the Independent. “I’m part of it. Sometimes the system helps you. Sometimes it chokes you. You know, if you send me on vacation, I’m clueless, I can’t even climb from a dinghy to a yacht. Can you imagine me on the beach? Maybe if I was a skinny, handsome man my career would have been different. Maybe then I would have been more, like, ‘Hellooo, look at my dresses’.”
