Yesterday, French president and jogging enthusiast Nicolas Sarkozy lost to François Hollande in the European election. Sadly, this means that Sarkozy’s wife, former model and singer Carla Bruni, will be forced to retire her wigs and various other disguises and end her reign as one of the world’s most stylish first ladies. Quel dommage! Bruni began her stint as la première dame when she when she married Sarko a year after he took office and just four months after he divorced his second wife, Cecilia. Carla also made Major World News when she gave birth to a baby girl, Giulia, in October, and even though she called it “so uninteresting for French people,” it was interesting enough for Barack Obama to wish them mazel tov. (Can Babyoncé say that?) Bruni has been compared to Jackie Kennedy and, of course, to her American counterpart, Michelle Obama, for her classic, well-executed style choices. Join us as we bid adieu to Carla Bruni and celebrate some of her best first lady looks.
