On the first Saturday in May for the last 138 years, people have flocked to Louisville in bow ties and bright colors to drink juleps and lose money at the Kentucky Derby. This year’s festival brought a record attendance of more than 165,000 people, many of whom turned out in their best big hats and tiny dresses. Beyond the excitement of the race itself (a horse named I’ll Have Another won against improbable odds), we support any reason to wear fascinators in America. Click through our slideshow for some of the celebratory looks of regular folk off to a day at the races.
