Apparel group Kellwood Co. announced it would no longer provide funding for the designer’s New York–based lines at the end of last year, after purchasing the brand in August 2010. Now, Lippes has bought back his name and intellectual property from Kellwood (and paid his way out of a non-compete clause), and will hold a presentation next year, marking the return of his eponymous collection and Adam offshoot. Lippes told WWD, “I want to go back to how we started out, which was more about friends and family. I want to go back to almost taking the ego out of it … I want there to be an appreciation for what we do.” The “we” will be Lippes and a team of three, and hopefully some well-dressed interns.
