Mad Men Fashion Recap: Sally Becomes a Woman
Photo: Courtesy of AMC
Last night’s Mad Men episode was perhaps the darkest we’ve ever seen, but to balance out the horrific sight [SPOILER] that was Lane Pryce’s gray-faced, dangling corpse, there were some bright spots — most notably, those on Sally’s underpants (yes, shown onscreen). But they also came in the form of Betty’s fabulous ski sweater/turtleneck combination and Glen’s scruffy schoolboy ensemble. Meanwhile, Joan wore two different bow-trimmed dresses, as though she were a nicely wrapped present, and Rebecca Pryce makes what may well be her last appearance on the show in a cute red coat. Click ahead for the full fashion recap.

Joan's polka dots Freshly minted partner Joan gets to boss everyone around in a meeting for the first time (and vote!). Nothing says "don't forget the Danish next time" like little red grosgrain bows.

Scarlett's teal cowl-neck Scarlett does her best to take over Joan's note-taking duties while wearing a clingy knit top. She forgets to provide pastries and messes up the water pitcher's placement; plus, doesn't her pin seems awfully summery for January? If she's going to fill Joan's shoes, she's got a long way to go.

Betty's ski sweater The idea of seeing Betty in full ski regalia filled our hearts with such joy that we could barely contain ourselves. Sadly, this is as close to the slopes as we got, but this sweater gave our imagination lots to work with.

Sally's non-ski sweater As you can tell from her stink-face, Sally does not want to go skiing (although her mood and aversion to physical exercise could be at least partially attributed to PMS). But maybe if her sweater was as warm and sheeplike as her mom's, she'd change her mind.

Megan's stay-at-home outfit This green sweater/cropped pants combo is Megan's version of loungewear: It's what she wears when she's sitting cross-legged on the sectional reading scripts. So what if she wears it in almost every episode? Most folks would just wear pajamas.

Rebecca's merry cap Rebecca's adoration of Lane only steers his depression farther downhill. It's heartbreaking to see her all done up in her jaunty red coat and proper winter hat, hoping for a nice date night that ends with Lane barfing in the parking garage before they can even leave. In related news: Is this the last we'll ever see of Rebecca?

Sally and Megan's day out Megan sweetly takes Sally out for coffee (coffee!) with her actress friend Julia (yes, she of the sloppy garters). Sally looks sort of like a Girl Scout, but her cardboard-colored overalls match Megan's sweater. Also, their hairdos are looking more and more alike.

Sally's date outfit Sally goes on her G-rated museum date with Glen wearing a dress with an enormous white collar and those patent leather knee-high boots that Megan got her. The overall effect: mod pilgrim.

Glen's school uniform We never realized how the proportions of Don and Megan's apartment could make children look like giants. In other news, points for authenticity with Glen's outfit: Hotchkiss's school colors are navy and white. We'll chalk up the orange touches to Glen wanting to spice things up around Sally.
Megan's new audition jacket An upgrade from that sparkly silver thing she used to wear to her auditions.
Betty's maternal colors This dress makes Betty look matronly, but Sally needs a nice, fatsuit-padded hug, so it's perfect.

Sally's period outfit Did anyone get jealous that Sally's menstruation means she gets to stay home from school, wear her pajamas, and be tenderly sandwiched between Betty's ample bosom and a hot-water bottle?
