The Teen Choice Awards red carpet is usually a perfect storm of hot summer weather, neon colors, and teenage stars wading through the awkward phases of “figuring out their style,” and this year’s was no exception. Although plenty of celebrities showed up looking the same as they normally do (Taylor Swift, Zooey Deschanel, and Pauly D, to name a few examples), some ventured quite far out of their normal wardrobe ranges (Carly Rae Jepsen, Cat Deeley, and the Jenner sisters). Click through our slideshow to see how the kids fared.

Least Crazy, Maybe: Carly Rae Jepsen If you didn't already know what the person responsible for that "Call Me Maybe"–shaped hole in your brain looked like, you're welcome. It's hard not to love a lady in a palm tree shorts suit, but the tropical drinks clutch is a bit much. Photo: Jon Kopaloff/2012 Jon Kopaloff

Least Crazy, Definitely: Zooey Deschanel Sometimes when you look at all the sparkly, tight, T-shirt-length dresses that appear at these red-carpet events, you grow totally numb and forget what real-people clothing looks like. Despite the fact that she looks a bit bored, Zooey looks tasteful, sophistocated, and sane. Photo: Jeffrey Mayer/2012 Jeffrey Mayer
