Venus Williams, wearing one of her own designs.
When The Cut caught up with Venus Williams at a party for her new athleticwear line, EleVen, in the Hamptons over the weekend, she had just flown in from London after winning a gold medal in women’s doubles with Serena. Thus, her confusion about where she’s planning to show her collection at this fall’s New York Fashion Week was understandable. “I’m not sure of the exact location because I just got back from the Olympics,” she explained. “I’m still getting updated. Who am I? Where am I? Why?”
Of Venus’s involvement in the line, she says, “I lead up all the design. That’s really number one, because if I’m not there doing that, then it won’t look like me, and it will start to look ordinary.” Her publicist has since confirmed that the show, set for Wednesday, September 12, won’t be “a conventional runway show,” instead following more of a presentation format. Either way, fashion does love tennis, so it’ll surely be well attended.
