Cutouts Get an Update for Spring

Cutouts were ubiquitous on last spring’s runways, but as anyone who’s tried the trend can attest, it doesn’t wear well — think droopy openings that require fashion tape to reinforce lapses in design logic. However, the problem’s been solved for spring 2013 with transparent panels. Proenza Schouler placed black lace inserts helter-skelter in one look; Prabal Gurung paired unusual tulle pieces with vermillion and white neoprene; and Alexander Wang used the sheerest synthetic tulle to underscore his theme of blocks in suspension.
