Carine Roitfeld’s Le Bal Ended in a Pillow Fight

Last night, MAC and Carine Roitfeld celebrated their new makeup collaboration with a party at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild. From 10 p.m. onward, doormen with kohl-rimmed lids — the dress code being “black tie, smoky eye” (yes, Rachel Zoe’s husband Rodger Berman obliged, too) — ushered big names through the high stone gates. Inside, a black-and-white video of Roitfeld applying her makeup was projected onto the ceiling and black-clad ballet dancers performed on podiums. Meanwhile, MAC makeup artists were available throughout the night to apply tiny stars near people’s eyes (the stencils are part of CR’s kit), and singer Paloma Faith, wearing a slinky green dress with a rainbow-dyed rabbit’s foot attached to one armpit, performed a short set around 11:30 p.m.

Later, Italian fashion cohorts Giovanna Battaglia, who wore batlike face paint, and Anna Dello Russo, in an elaborate Alan Journo veil, took to the stage, lip-synching and playing the air piano to Grease songs and Yacht’s “Psychic City.” Karl Lagerfeld made a drive-by to dance with Carine for the cameras, and Kanye West showed up wearing what was possibly the same gray tee he’d worn to the Chanel show that morning as well as to club Chez Régine the night before. In the wee hours of the morning, some crowd members stole shiny black throw pillows from the D.J. booth, ripped them open, and tossed white fluff over everyone’s heads. See, things like that just don’t happen at the Frick. Enjoy our slideshow of all the party guests, including smoky-eyed Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Karlie Kloss, Caroline Sieber, the Delevingnes, and more.
