In 2009, Hilary Mantel was awarded the Man Booker Prize — Britain’s most prestigious fiction prize — for Wolf Hall, a historical novel set in Tudor England. Today, she won a second Booker prize, for Wolf Hall’s sequel, Bring Up the Bodies. Mantel is the first female double Booker, alongside Peter Carey and J.M. Coetzee. She is currently at work on the third book in the series, about Henry VIII’s minister Thomas Cromwell, giving her the opportunity for a historic hat trick. As for the rest of us, the first two books will be a BBC miniseries by the end of 2013.
