Demi Lovato and Her New, Very Creative Bird Tattoos

On Sunday, X Factor judge and Disney Channel alumna Demi Lovato got a series of new tattoos courtesy of Dita Von Teese wannabe Kat Von D. The freshly inked concept consists of twelve birds caught in mid-flight with the word faith imprinted alongside their tiny, flapping wings. Of course, it’s a metaphor for freedom (right?). But when it comes down to it, they’re nothing more than this decade’s favorite tattoo abomination, as ubiquitous as tramp stamps.

Over the last few years, we’ve seen them flying out of — and sometimes into — chests, backs, and, of course, crotches. Click through our slideshow to see Justin Bieber, Johnny Depp, Kate Moss, Harry Styles, Sienna Miller, and others with some permanent feathered friends. Let this be a lesson to us all.

Johnny Depp This tattoo was inspired by a Kentucky card game called Rook, which is also the name of certain species of bird that most resembles a crow. And this is your bird lesson of the day, brought to you by Johnny Depp.
Rumer Willis This little guy is all wings, but still barely covers her appendage.
Drew Barrymore Ah, yes, the flightless doodle bird.
Kelly Osbourne There was bird woman ...
Pink ... and then there was bird man.
Justin Bieber This Candian bird looks more like a Texas longhorn.
Kate Moss Peekaboo butt birds.
Harry Styles Someone call Pete Wentz.
Amber Riley This little hummingbird looks like it hurt.
Emma Stone Sir Paul McCartney drew these blackbird feet for Stone and her mom. That doesn't mean they deserved their own shrine.
Jessica Biel This hip-bone dove found a sprig of hope in Biel's nether regions.
Mark MaGrath The Sugar Ray bandleader definitely talks to the bluebird on his shoulder. Definitely.
Sienna Miller A sparrow (or perhaps a swallow?) can be found on the actress's left wrist.
