Exposed Tummies Wildly Popular on CFDA/Vogue Red Carpet

Last night’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards was a predictably highbrow affair, with designers squiring their celebrity clients and Vogue inviting their usual cast of characters. The red carpet, which was teeming with fresh runway looks, provides the following conclusions: (1) People are really embracing this “winter white” trend, which started as a conveniently alliterative title for fashion editorials and is now trickling its way into celebrity closets, and (2) bellies are the thing to show off this season. Christina Ricci showed up in a midriff-baring top and skirt by Richard Chai, while Ashley Greene’s Wes Gordon outfit had a sheer lace panel over her midsection, and Allison Williams’s Peter Som dress had a triangular cutout just above her abdomen. Caroline Trentini also wore a crop top and matching skirt.

It seems cruel for this to become a hot style just in time for Thanksgiving. Are women really going to roll up to holiday parties this year with their pasty bellies hanging out? Surely not — which is why this look will probably be restricted to Vogue events. But if your mind is set on showing your tummy, Allison Williams’s cutout tactic seems to be the most wearable route. Or you could just cut your losses and stick with the all-white trend, as exemplified by Liya Kebede, Elettra Wiedemann, and Carolyn Murphy  — you won’t even have to worry about eggnog spills.

Click through our slideshow to see all the attendees’ outfits, including Karlie Kloss in glasses, Dakota Fanning in a pink peplum, Emma Stone in green sequins, and many others.
