When Bret Easton Ellis and Paul Schrader talked to the Aesthete about casting their ultra-low-budget film The Canyons, there was never any doubt about who the male lead would be: Ellis had pictured 26-year-old porn star James Deen the entire time. Love him or hate him, Deen has developed a vocal following of supporters that, as the interview claims, is “made up almost entirely of young women and gay men, including Ellis” who are convinced he can pull off the sex-laden script. With his “scruffy, hipster good looks, wiry frame, prodigious endowment and hyper-intense performing style,” he’s an obvious fantasy man. And though he’s already appeared in at least 1,300 films of some sort, it will be even better to see him acting alongside Lindsay Lohan, who will play the female lead.
