Reed Krakoff’s Graphic, Pre-Fall 2013 Collection

Seeing clothing on a runway is one thing; being able to hold it, inspect its seams, and understand its drape and weight are quite another. This is why we market editors go on appointments and “re-sees.” On a recent afternoon, the Reed Krakoff team treated the Cut to a sensory overload. We couldn’t help but pet the baby-soft lambskin used to line their handbags, stroke the luxe rabbit-fur gloves, and fondle the incredible textures and finishes of the shoes and leather goods for which Krakoff is known. The graphic, asymmetrical ready-to-wear would be perfect for an actress looking for a fashion curveball to add to her look book. Click through to see our favorite picks from their offerings for pre-fall 2013.

The grid perforation of these kid leather gloves is a runway-worthy detail, but they look better on, hitting high enough on the upper arm, exactly where a good opera glove should be. The cutout, red-leather slingback heel seems like the kind of street-style detail that we'll be zooming in on next year.

Marigold, the color of the pom-pom flower and Amalfi Coast sunshine, looks luxe and playful against the showroom's black and white spectrum. It's the bright outlier that brings dimension to the already graphic, but otherwise 2-D, black and white looks in the collection.

Perfect for the dinner date, coffee date, or just a quick jaunt out, these miniature bags, slightly smaller than your old lunch box, are big enough to carry just the essentials. We love the black patent-leather one — it's sharp, shiny, and just right for next year.

At a sensible two inches, these bad boys seem like the only thing you want to wear when off duty and out of heels.  Notice the matte rubberized upper juxtaposed with the glossy sculpted toe of the shoes; it's the ideal shoe to step out and splash around in just as the weather transitions.

Deceptively light, this rubberized crocodile bag (yes, real crocodile) has a soft matte finish and is lined with the softest lambskin imagineable. If its sheer beauty doesn't make you weep, the price tag just might.

A slim pouch, great for an iPad mini, slips in and out of the exterior pocket of the bag. There are also lots of slip pockets, which are right for stashing the odd plane ticket, passport, or other important item.

The rubberized lace of this dress has the look and sheen of being painted lightly with tar. It also gives it a stiff architectural drape and makes this LBD look urban and tough, but no less sophisticated.
The asymmetric rubberized lace dress (center) is ripe for the red carpet. Maybe for Anne Hathaway as she continues her Oscar bid?

The longest lambskin opera gloves lined with rabbit fur. They're impractically chic, but as soon as you put them on (again, these opera gloves are long enough to meet a T-shirt's sleeves), you'll try to figure out an occassion. I'd try them with a sleeveless muscle T-shirt, tucked in with belted, high-waisted, wide-leg wool slacks and heels.

I immediately gravitated to this double-breasted wool gilet, which I would throw over slim slacks and a slinky long-sleeve tee. It can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with motorcycle boots, making it a versatile piece for most wardrobes.
