Bill Martin, the founder of ShopperTrak — a group that calculates retail foot traffic — told WWD, “Last year, Dec. 26 fell on a Monday. Many people had the day off, which they spent shopping. This year, the day after Christmas was a Wednesday; many people were back at work, not out in stores.” The day after Christmas is expected to be the fifth best traffic day and the seventh best sales day of the year. Black Friday (November 23) came in first for both sales and traffic, followed by Super Saturday (December 22). Third and fourth place went to December 15 and December 21, which don’t have clever nicknames yet.
