Destination Sundance: Twenty Pieces for the Snowy Slopes

The Sundance Film Festival is the only time you’ll see film enthusiasts, ski bums, and celebrities awkwardly matching in water-repellent gear. Kicking off yesterday, the thirteen-day event will show highly anticipated movies like Very Good Girls, starring Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen; Ashton Kutcher’s take on Steve Jobs in jOBS; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s debut directorial effort, Don Jon’s Addiction. While most people are headed to Utah to check out the films, everyone knows the real draw of Sundance is nearby (and amazing) mountain resorts like Snowbird and Brighton.

When hitting the powdery slopes, stylish amateurs would be wise to strap on Roxy’s kaleidoscope-printed snowboard: It has magnetraction technology to ensure a solid grip on the runs, the better to ward against any unwanted tumbles. Add a bright jacket and matching helmet for easy spotting once snow really starts to come down, and finish off with fun layers like a polka-dot fleece or striped thermals to keep extra warm. For après ski, swap out the snowboarding jacket for an oversize down coat and fuzzy faux-fur hat and lace up rubberized boots that are especially handy on icy sidewalks. While these towns tend to err on the casual side, the festival still has its dressy moments: A long pencil skirt paired with a lace-trimmed top and ankle boots is chic and winter appropriate. Click ahead to see these and more for all of your ski-resort needs, whether Sundance-bound or somewhere closer to home.

A hot-pink beanie not only keeps your head extra warm but also hides dreaded helmet hair.
Wearing a helmet is a smart safety choice, but skip the plain black ones for something graphic and fun.
Goggles are a must, especially with easily interchangeable lenses for bluebird days or low-light conditions.
Prevent windburn with a fleece-lined face mask: They won't freeze over like your standard scarves or bandannas.

Opt for bright outwear like this varsity-inspired version from Burton.
If you're going bright on top, a simpler bottom, like these lined pants, will balance out your look.

Besides having magnetraction grip technology, this board is flexible enought to attempt tricks in the terrain park.
A striped thermal should be your first layer when heading out into the cold.

For après skim, throw this on instead of a beanie: more polished, less ski bum.
Big, warm, and less stinky than your snowboarding jacket that's damp from the snow and sweat.
Zip this under your snowboarding jacket or your down coat for the days when the temperature barely breaks zero degrees.
After the day is over, swap your wet face mask for a scarf to keep your neck warm.
You're in a ski town, what else would you wear?
A sleek black-and-white snowboot is a definite upgrade from those ubiquitous sheepskin boots.
Kid-friendly, adult-approved.
Lace trim is all you need to make a sweater evening-appropriate in most casual ski towns.
