Fug Girls: Jada Pinkett Smith Expounds on Willow’s ‘Aesthetic Talents’ at Kors

On Wednesday morning, Michael Kors delivered what might have been this week’s best, most consistently A-list front row. First out, well before the venue was even half full, was Kors friend and show regular Michael Douglas, looking particularly sharp now that he’s free of the ridiculous dye job he was growing out (thanks to his Liberace movie) the last time we saw him at a Kors show. “I’m lucky to have costume designers dressing me in my day job,” we overheard him confide to someone — but you’ll note he never shouted out his hair people.

Speaking of hair dye, Jada Pinkett Smith, who paused for a long chat with Douglas before taking her own seat, has dyed the sides of her own hair — her sideburns, if you will — to match the green coat she was wearing. THAT is commitment to a look. Pinkett Smith had Willow in tow, but it didn’t appear that she’d dyed her child to match anything. “I collaborate with my mom,” we heard Willow say, when asked about her occasionally outlandish getups. “Willow is aesthetically talented,” Jada interjected. And cue the announcement about the Jada/Willow fashion line in 3 … 2 … 1.

Willow was flanked by Paz Vega (lovely in a leather jacket), and Jada was sitting with Zoe Saldana, who also emerged from backstage earlier than someone of her celebrity magnitude is wont to do, looking incredibly polished in raspberry. Paz and Zoe kept leaning across the Pinkett Smiths to engage in a spirited conversation, while the rest of us waited for the final seats in celeb row to be filled.

Broadway star, 30 Rock occasional player, and full-time dreamy dreamboat Cheyenne Jackson soon took one of them, mentioning as he did so that he braved the crush because Kors is a good friend. Jackson does seem refreshingly low-key — we saw him leave the venue out the front door like all the rest of us schmoes, casual in jeans and a puffy jacket.

The final seat in the front row was right next to Michael Douglas, so obviously we all hoped and suspected that Catherine Zeta Jones was about to burst out from backstage, perhaps in song. No such luck, although the seat was filled by another Oscar winner: Hilary Swank, looking better than we’ve seen her in a long time in a color-blocked frock and sleek hair. Douglas nodded approvingly at her — we like to think he helped workshop her look backstage — as Hilary chatted animatedly across the runway with Elle’s Joe Zee. Sure, there was no impromptu dancing (because obviously CZJ whips out her Chicago moves at any opportunity, right?), but we’ll take it anyway. Star power always trumps our yen for tap shoes.
