Man Shoots Off Wedding Ring

A Pennsylvania man shot his own finger in an attempt to remove his wedding ring, the AP reports. Alfredo Malespini III, a federal prison guard, was in a drunken argument about infidelity with his wife at their home, where police had previously been called a “couple times” for domestic disputes. Adding insult to injury, the shot “badly mangled” the Malespini’s finger but didn’t remove the ring. He was charged with disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment, which is punishable by up to two years in prison. “He was out on his back deck,” local police explained. “The bullet could have been fired in a direct line with neighbor’s houses,” Or, you know, his wife’s body. Anyway, this story feels like a warning. But for what? The failed institution of marriage? The Prison-Industrial Complex? Domestic violence law reform? Gun control? If we only knew.
