This just in from Zimbabwe: The country’s 89-year-old president, Robert Mugabe, is really flattered that the fashion line named after him is popular, but he would like some money for it, reports the BBC. Founded three years ago by a company called Yedu Nesu, the label’s T-shirts, berets, umbrellas, and other wares adorned by Mugabe’s signature have seen brisk sales. Now Mugabe’s party, Zanu-PF, is hoping to get shares of the company so they can get in on the profits, mostly for campaign funding purposes. Party spokesperson Rugare Gumbo tells the BBC, “It’s an intellectual property which we have to maintain. We have allowed every Jack and Jill to do what they like about the whole thing.” It’s also called free advertising.
