Today, a man who helped many Disney musicals (and by association, childhoods) reach the peak of their magical potentials was officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The multitalented Randy Newman — who once championed the “piano rock” category with his distinctive voice, musically blessed fingers, and satirical lyrics — is now both a rock-and-roll and cartoon legend. In his younger years, he’d dazzle at a piano with his eyes closed behind giant aviator spectacles, singing pop songs with poignant lyrics from the point of view of unique characters. More recently, he’s been involved in the trade of making dreams come true (a.k.a composing music for films like Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., and The Princess and the Frog). He also has a wealth of Grammys, Emmys, and Oscars under his belt — which only means this rock star is just one Tony away from joining the EGOT crew.
