Yesterday, Pratt Institute celebrated its 114th annual fashion show by sending seventeen exciting student collections from the fashion department’s class of 2013 down the runway. The fashion-y crowd in attendance included Glamour Magazine’s Anne Christensen, CNN’s Alina Cho, Bill Cunningham, and Vogue’s international editor at large, Hamish Bowles, who introduced the show and also presented the 2013 Pratt Fashion Visionary Award to Thom Browne. Before the student work streamed out, Browne accepted his award and distributed his sagelike fashion advice to the soon-to-be grads: “Don’t be in a hurry. Make beautiful clothes. Scare yourself with your ideas,” he said. “Make them laugh and cry.”
Standouts from the show included Emma Hastil, who fearlessly clashed vibrant colors and bold prints; Macy Smith, who sent down whimsical creations made of pastel colors, lime-green fur, and eyeballs; and Madeline Gruen, who closed the night with gorgeous blue-and-white eveningwear worthy of a young Alexander McQueen. Seriously, we can’t wait to see what she does in the future. Click through the slideshow for looks from each of the grads.
