So often, fashion-heavy dressing never looks comfortable — shoes are painfully high, jewelry gets piled on, and clothing tends to be seasonally inappropriate. But this snapshot from last September’s fashion week scene shows how a laid-back, easy-to-wear outfit can still be incredibly chic. Begin by choosing a slouchy-striped shirt (with the shoulder seam hitting midway between the shoulder and the elbow); usually a men’s style has the right fit for this look, although sizing up a women’s one could work if you prefer it to be nipped at the waist. Roll up the sleeves to underscore the casual vibe and then combine with a graphic, color-blocked skirt to create feminine counterbalance. Finish off the look with warm-weather-appropriate chunky white shoes that you can actually walk in. In the case above, the stylish show attendee opted for a pair of clogs. But a thin pair of flatforms are more versatile while still offering enough heft to anchor the look.
