Those getting their fall wardrobes in order will find a worthy investment in designer Shay Alkalay, who has elevated sweater and underwear drawers to an art form with his floating Stack, conceived several seasons ago but now available at DDC (starting at $5,375 at 136 Madison Ave., nr. 32nd St.; 212-685-0800). Unencumbered by an exterior frame, these sturdy, 22-inch-deep lacquered-wood compartments, which come in units of eight or thirteen (three feet five and five feet ten inches tall, respectively) and in three color gradients, can be pushed and pulled from either side, resulting in a Jenga-like effect. Says Alkalay, “I think drawers look more intriguing when left partially open.”
