Stefano Pilati, formerly the designer for Yves Saint Laurent back when that was still its name, is now in the throes of reinvention. In January, he began a new job at Italian menswear label Ermenegildo Zegna, and upped the ante with an expanded couture suit line. His first collection, unveiled in June, was met with overwhelming positivity (everyone loves a comeback! Oh, and the suits were nice); now he’s overhauling the brand’s Agnona womenswear label. WWD reports:
The first collection, named #0, will be presented at Agnona’s new boutique at 11 Via Sant’Andrea in Milan from Sept. 18. Also expect new product categories that were not traditionally part of the brand.
We don’t have much to go on here — Zegna’s spokesperson declined to say what kind of product categories will be introduced, or really anything else besides the fact that the collection will be “seasonless” and “available for purchase on the spot,” the latter of which is unusual and rather odd. Are attendees really expected to break out their credit cards and part with four-digit dollar amounts then and there? Usually such “shopping events” are reserved for labels with gentler price tags. (Agnona’s items cost well into the grands.) But hey, it’s a bright new day for Pilati, so he gets the benefit of the doubt.
